Our Story

The Christian Peacebuilding Network (CPN) began to help Christians explore together how we might faithfully and effectively build bridges of understanding, respect, and friendship with all our neighbors, both other Christians and across social, ideological, and religious barriers.

This networking effort and online community developed in response to the need to foster a supportive community for many Jesus-following peacebuilders who often feel isolated from one another and alone in their work. Our objective is to create space for healthy dialogue among Christians about how we can all become more effective peacebuilders, so that we can collaborate together across social, ideological, and religious lines for the common good, healing and blessing our communities. Our vision is to see peace-oriented theology and peacebuilding practice become mainstream among Christians everywhere.

In 2020, a Christian Peacebuilding Network Facebook group was created:

  1. As a platform for Christians to learn about peace-orienting theology and peacebuilding practices from and with our peers and more seasoned activists, and

  2. As a safe and positive community space to connect with others who are seeking to build bridges of understanding across social, ideological and religious divisions. As those who seek to follow Jesus and build peace, we are all learners, even those who have been at this work for a long time.

In 2021, a group of 8-10 Christian peacebuilders began to meet monthly to discuss how we might further connect and amplify what we understood to be a growing Christian peacebuilding movement.

Then in 2022, the initial group began to strategize about how to articulate this networking effort and to invite an ever wider group into the conversation.
